Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State Launches Flood Relief Drive

Efforts to Support Central West Virginia Communities in Need

[HUNTINGTON, WV] July 23, 2026 Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State is partnering with Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity to assist families and businesses in the City of Buckhannon (and surrounding area) impacted by the devastating flooding that struck central West Virginia this week. The flooding has caused significant damage in areas including Buckhannon and Weston, with local leaders comparing the event to the historic flooding of November 1985.

To support recovery efforts, Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State is organizing a community supply drive to collect essential cleanup and relief items. Requested donations include shovels, garden rakes, garden hoses, cleaning supplies, bottled water, nonperishable food, and other items that will aid residents as they begin the recovery process.

Donations will be accepted at both Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State ReStore locations and delivered to Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity for distribution to affected families and neighborhoods.

“We are committed to standing alongside our friends at Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity as they work along-side community members to recover from this flooding disaster,” said David Michael, Executive Director/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State. “Recovering from flooding takes a long time. This is our first effort to help provide some much-needed relief to those in the Buckhannon area who have lost so much in this flood.”

Community members are encouraged to contribute supplies and help spread awareness of the relief effort among friends, family members, churches, civic organizations, and local businesses.
